So, I've been taking it easy after the marathon and the 5K cross country race, with prospects of racing in December. Unfortunatley, I will be forced to take it easy for the next month. I will preface this by saying that everything is fine and minimal damage was done, and we were never in danger, but there was a fire in our building yesterday. Thankfully, Ashley and Gabriel were at the grocery store when it happened on the 2nd floor (we're 4 floors above). The fire department was quickly on the scene to contain it to just the 2nd floor and minimize the damage. Our building just smells like a campfire now.
So why am I taking it easy? Ash called me at school on the school phone( what a day to not have my phone) and told me what had happened. I imiidetaly got a freind to cover my class and I ran out of there. I tore down 4 flights of stairs as quickly as possible, and in the process misstepped. Right above the 1st floor, i turned over my left ankle (my bad ankle) and completely wiped out. I'm sure security video is friggin hilarious.
So, i am limping around on a bad ankle right now and I see no need to race in December. I'm gonna hit the bike, maybe some strength training, and a little running. I'll be back on my feet soon. See you in January!

A fresh Start
Although I have not posted in a few months, lots of stuff has been going on. Unfortunately, when you have to choose between family, work, running, eating, sleeping, and blogging, I'm sure you know which gets cut first. And unfortunately, sleeping was the next to go......Some highs and lows from the past 2 months:
Ashley and I got to both run in the world's largest and greatest marathon, the NYC Marathon. It was a memorable experience to both be in it for the 4th year and share it with Ash. My race turned out disastrous, with foot pains by mile 10, forcing me to limp through the last 10 miles. It was frustrating and extremely disappointing, having spent most of the year leading up to this. But, on the bright side....Ash ran a PR by more than 20 minutes and completed her first marathon in 6 years. It was a great day for the family
4 Weeks prior, I ran in the Staten Island Half Marathon, a lead up to the NYC. While I knew i was in good shape, i had no idea how good. I set out and planned to race at a 5:45 pace, my eventual marathon pace (or what i was aiming for). I went out easy in the race, and settled into my pace, not too far off the lead pack. As the race went, i kept my pace, and those in front began to slow. I picked off runners one by one, and before i knew it, i was in 5th place with 4 miles to go!! I kept racing hard, dropping the fourth place runner and pulling even with the 3rd place guy at mile 12. Knowing how tired I was by then, i decided to kick it in then and hopefully break his spirit before the straight away. It worked, and i beat him by 20 seconds with a time of 1:14:38, a new PR by a minute and the fastest i had run since 2007! It was an amazing and surprising day and looking back, at least 1 fast time came out of my year long training.
I took 2 weeks off after the NYC marathon, no running at all. Yesterday I ran in a 5K Cross country race up at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, one of the premier off cross country courses in the nation. It was brutal!!! But an experience. I ran 17:29 and just missed an age group award. It was cool to be out there, and it was a good kickoff to training again.
Over the next year, i am going to focus on half marathons, as these marathons are just beating me up, and the time commitment to do them right is just not there. I probably won't do another one till next fall.
So, that's the update, hopefully i can find some time to blog....if not, I'll still be running, and you can see snippets of that on Facebook and The Goodwin Blog!

How about an even 20
So, worst running week in a very long time. 1 run in, 20 miles total. I'm gonna shrus it off, and hope to get my running back in order this week. Work is draining, but hopefully i can get things in line soon. I'm missing out on key runs right now. We'll see what the week holds

Apple Picking and Petting Zoos
So, we were out of town all day, needless to say, like the rest of the week, no running transpired...

At long last, not a shut out
My first run of the week comes on Friday night, after no sleep and hard work all week, I forced myself to run at about 8:45 tonight. Since we will be gone for the day tomorrow, I tried to get in my long run of 20 miles tonight. It was a test of will power, with (3) 6 mile laps, plus a 2 mile lap around the bridle path. I really didn't see how I would finish, I really was just shooting to maybe survive 10 and call it a night. My motivation was my lamb burger waiting for me and the ice cream and cookie that would follow that. I struggled to start, and actualy by 3 miles, i was so dizzy i had to stop and sit down. It was not looking good for me.
I had no choice but at least to complete the lap and get 6 miles, no matter how slow. By the time I came around to the end of lap 1, i convinced myself i could do 1 more, so at least i would have 12 miles and would not feel so bad about my proposed meal. Again, i pressed on through another lap, this time, 5 minutes faster than the last. Now i was 1 lap away, and a short 2 mile jog, from 20 miles. So, i kept going, since i was already out here.
It hurt....but i did it! It was not a speed competition, but at least i got a run in. I hope things even out next week.

Yep, you guessed it...
Still no running, day 4! I'm just about to drop. Going to bed at 10 and getting up at 2 am is just ridiculous. I'm just trying to survive. The bright side is, at least I'm not in the Bronx!

Shattered
This is the 3rd day in a row of no sleep and too much work. I feel my goal of 400 September miles has been destroyed. I will try my best to still put in as many as i can.

Next day, same as the last.....
Too much work, not enough sleep, i'm up at all hours, trying to remember how to be a teacher. I have a feeling its not going to be a good week...

2nd day back at work
Today was the 2nd day back at work, it wore me out. I had too much work too do, so unfortunatly, running got the boot.....

Easy day, half and half
Today I woke up with a cold, a left over from yesterday, and decided that running at 4:00 am was just not gonna work. Instead, I got up later and ran the first lap of Ash's long run with her (5.5 miles) and then went home and made some breakfast for everyone. Once G went down for his nap, I went out and ran 7.5 miles to round out a 13 mile day. It was a nice change of pace, and a whole lot easier than slogging through 13 straight after a long run. I like it, plus got to share in Ash's long run!!

It just is...
Today's long run was neither good nor bad, it was just in between. I finished 20 miles in about a 6:40 pace, nothing spectacular, yet not terrible. My legs were a little crampy by 12 miles, but other than that, nothing really to say. I did this run at 4:00 am this morning, sometimes its the only time to get a long run in. On my way, I ran past ground zero this morning. It was mobbed by police, as would be expected on today, the ninth anniversary of 9/11. So, long run down, now time to relax and enjoy the day, and it's not even 10 am yet!!
September Miles Update
Counting today, I have done 117.5 miles in September, only 282.5 miles to go.....can i do it??

Easy long run, and then some
This morning I went out and ran 11 miles at 5 a.m. It was nice to be out running after 3 unintended days off. Later in the day I went out with Ash and G for about a 4 mile jog. 15 for the day, I'm hoping for more consistency....

Day off
Today, we had errands to run and dentist appointments to keep, and both Ash and I juts did not feel like running. So, we tried to relax with what we had left of the day, tomorrow I will definitley run...

first day teaching
Today I taught for the first time, it was tiring but good. Unfortunately, Gabriel has been in a rare form, meaning Ash needed quite a break from him by the time I got off. So, thwarted on my run for the day. Not a good pattern

First day back at work
First day officially back at work, there was so much to do today, I just couldn't squeeze in a run.
Monday, September 6, 2010
Just the usual
Today I got up and did an easy 10 miles in Central Park, just getting back in the groove of things. Nothing monumental about that. Once was finished, I went out and ran a hill workout with Ash. I only managed to do about 5.5 of it, due to Gabriel getting antsy and needin to go take a nap. Good easy day.

Easy day required
After such an intense effort yesterday, I had to go real easy today. I ran only 6, feeling more than that to be unnecesassry, and I just wanted to rest. It's nice to have a short run every once and while.

23 miles....OH YEAH!!!
I had an amazing run this morning, I ran out to brooklyn to pick up the last 13 miles of the NYC marathon course, except I left out going to the Bronx, because you know, now that I don't have to go to the Bronx for work, why would I voluntarily go? Anyway, it was great, I felt strong, and finished 22 miles in 2:15 (a 6:08 per mile pace) at the official marathon finish, plus I had 1 more mile to get home. If I had finished a full marathon today, I would have come in about 2:42 most likely. that's only 3 minutes off my best time, so I am thrilled with this workout. I finally feel like I am getting results from my training. I hope to have more fantastic runs ahead. It really helped to also be running the NYC course, and know that I have been there before. Awesome run!!

Just another day
I ran 14 miles this morning, nice and easy, just getting ready for my long run tomorrow. 22 on the schedule, my plan is to run part of the NYC marathon course for inspiration, just to change it up a little. We'll see if it pays off....still working toward getting the blue jersey!!!!

13 mile tempo run at 5:45 am? Surely you jest!
So, I'm on my way to a 400 mile September, so, I had to do a long Tempo run this morning. Usually, actually, almost always, I run tempo runs at night when I am awake, but considering the day we have today, there is no time for that. SO, I set out, warming up the first few miles, then alternated with 1 mile at 5:40, 1 mile at 6:45, 2 miles at 5:40, 1/2 mile at 6:45, 1.5 mile at 5:40, then 1 slow, 2 fast, 1 slow 1 fast and 1 slow. It was exhausting, challenging, difficult, but ultimately I finished. I really wish I did not have work today, it would have been nice to lay around and recover. Oh well, onward and upward...

Morning = Boo, afternoon much better
This morning was rough, my legs were dead, I just did not have it. I only managed 6 miles before I just went back home. Later on in the afternoon, i went with Ash on her 5 mile run. Although I started off feeling very stiff, by the end I was feeling much looser. It was good to go out and wrok on getting my legs loose. Just having an off week. Maybe things will get better.
Back to the morning
I managed a morning workout, although it was not wonderful by any means. I did not hardly get enough sleep, and I'm sore and stiff from yesterday. I kept it short at 6 miles easy, it's just all I could muster this morning. At least I made it out to the park

Speed work in the heat!
I used my lunch break today to squeeze in my speed workout on the Eastside of Central Park. The workout was a 1.5 mile warm up, followed by 3 x (1200m at 10K race pace + 90 sec rest + 400m at 5k race pace + 3 min rest) followed by a cool down. It was tough, especially with the heat. My times were:
1200 - 3:53
400 - 76
1200 - 3:56
400 - 77
1200 - 3:52
400 - 74
All said, I totalled over 7 miles of training, plus, later in the day, i ran a few miles of Ash's easy workout with her. Soon, this heat wave will be gone!

Still tired
I'm still feeling off from my long run. Tonight I went out and did an easy 8 miles. I really did not feel like running at all, but I know I need to. So, it's finished, hopefully by tomorrow, my legs are feeling a little more flexible and loose. I'm hoping to soon get back to morning running. I tried his morning, but as I was waking up watching the morning news and preparing to go out and run at 5 am, y son decided it was time for him to get up......and not go back to sleep. Oh well, such is life.

Laying low
Last nites long run took it out of me. Today I felt awful and really got nothing accomplished. We ended up getting out and jogging a couple miles to get loose, but that was about it. It's been a long time since a long run beat me up so bad.

Late Night Long Run
Lately I have been running at night because of many things. I don't mind it, but it's not a workable solution once school gets cranking up again. I got up early today to do my long run, but by mile 2, my sokcs were rubbing my heels weird, that feeling that if today's run were a 7 mile run, I would be okay, but no way I could cover 20 feeling that way. I cut it short, goin home after only 4 miles.
After a full day, i gave the long run another shot at 10 pm! My plan was to run (4) 5.2 mile laps in Central Park, which is dreadfully boring. My goal was to run between 7:00 and 6:45 minutes a mile. My first lap was slow, above 7 minutes. For lap 2, i sped up, running faster than 6:45. By lap 3, feeling tired, I managed to pick up the pace a little more. By lap 4, I was exhausted and almost did not start! I convinced myself I could do 1 more. By mile 19, i was spent, and bonked a litte. I slowed down my last lap, but still managed to run faster than the first. So, I managed a 21 mile run, with a total time less than 7 minutes a mile, and for the day, I totaled 25 miles. I finished running about 12:30 am, and had some eggs and cheese to keep myself from going to bed starving. What an exhasuting night, at least I got my run in. My splits are as follows:
(1) - 37:06 (7:06/mile)
(2) - 34:29 (6:38/mile)
(3) - 34:16 (6:35/mile)
(4) - 35:48 (6:51/mile)
Total - 20.8 miles in 6:49/mile pace

Easy Day
So, we were busy today, plus I was tired from my tempo last night, so, today, Ash and I combined for a 4.6 mile run/walk. It was relazing, plus we got to take G to the park and go hang out with my coworkers at the Boat Basin on the way. I'll take it

10 mile 10:00 pm Tempo run
Tonight, consistent with how this week has been going, i did my tempo run late tonight. I did a 2 mile warmup up, then (4) consecutive 1.75 mile loops, then a 1 mile cool down. My lap times were:
9:55
10:01
9:44
9:50
These times are right in the neighborhood of 5:38-5:44 per mile, which is exactly what I needed to be doing. I'm pleased with my run, especially since I figured I would actually only do 6 miles because I was so tired!

Time for some hills
I split my 10 miles tonight between running hills with Ash and G and running by myself. I helped Ash through half of er workout, then took G to Safari Park to play with hippos. After we got home and got G fed, bathed, read to, and in bed, I went out and did 6 miles before we ate dinner. Bust night, but you do what you have to do!

Need some motivation
I needed some motivation tonight, so as I ran my 9 mile run, I covered the last 2 miles of the NYC marathon. I love to swing through the bottom of the park and imagine how I will be feeling at the end of the race in November. I do this from time to time to keep me focused on why I'm training. It was a nice run!

Rest and Recovery
So, we got into New York around 4 pm today after running a few errans in NJ on the way in. I am just completely wiped, and even though i hate to take 2 days in a row off, I must. Hope to get back on it tomorrow.

The Traveling Blues
The first of two days of travel, and I am sore from the race. SOooooo....no running for me today. Instead, 10 hours in the car and a stop over in Harrisburg, PA for the night.

Long run with Ash
Ash and I are both running in the NYC Marathon in November. Because of travel, she had to do her long run this morning. SO, since I am running a race tomorrow, i decided i would run her long run with her. So, we got out on the road by 6:30, we drove to the dam, which has a 2 mile protected section across it(There is hardly anywhere to run around here with out the threat of being run over). But, it was so boring and so full of cars that our original plan of running across it twice and back was just not going to cut it. We opted instead for the "Run as far across this bridge till the sidewalk runs out" plan, which put us into Lexington. We did a 10.2 miles plus another .6 cool down. I would call it 11 for the day. It hurt, the whole run was on concrete sidewalks. We will be in Central Park soon.......

Tired and bored
I got up this morning and was going to do a 10 mile tempo run. I tried, but I was so bored and tired and running in the dark, I opted for the 10 mile easy run. I think the 5K race this weekend will serve as my tempo run

Stranded in the Desert......
Today was plain awful. I needed 10 miles easy, so I went with Ash to run her time trial on the track. After our mile interval and WU and Cd, I needed 7 more miles. So, I thought i would run the long way home from the track, doing a wide, 7 mile loop on a road called "Shady Grove". Hilarious enough, no shade to be had. I had no idea at the time that the heat index was 105! I was cooked, by the time I had 2 miles to go, I was already burnt and exhausted. I had no choice but to continue, stopping now and then to rest in the shade. I survived, fortunately, but had a pace north of 7:30 a mile. I was just glad there was a pool waiting on me when i finished!

Fire on the Track
Today was brutal. On the schedule, 2 mile warm up followed by 8 x 800m @ 2:36 with a 90 sec rest followed by 2 mile cool down. So, i ran 3 miles to the track and the started the workout. Unfortunately it was 87 degrees with a heat index of 97! Plus, no shade at all. After the 3rd interval, my times began to slide and i began to wither. By 800 number 5, i had to call it quits. My splits were:
(1) 2:35
(1) 2:34
(1) 2:38
(1) 2:40
(1) 2:45
As you can see, my times were sliding, and are an indicator that i need to stop. I ran 3 home, and called it day.......or not.
About 2 hours later, i went out with Ash for a 7 mile hill run around the streets. It was still brutally hot out, but it was manageable, plus with shotguns and traffic amok, i was not about to let Ash run alone. All in all, 16 miles for the day.

Travel Day
So, our trip to SC extended into a 2nd day, we did not roll in till 1 pm today. I was exhausted and still have a cold (Honestly, who gets a cold in August), so i took a day of rest.

Bronx Half
This was my 4th year running the Bronx half and my best yet. Despite my cold, and sick and teething 15 month old, I scored a 1:16:58, my 4th fastest half marathon! I went out relaxed with the idea of a 5:50 pace as my goal. The first 4 miles came in at or below 5:50, with the next 6 or so around 6:00. I managed to stay competitive throughout, with no one passing me after 4 miles. With 3 miles to go, I had 1 more competitor in front of me within catching distance. I followed closely behind him and with 2 miles to go, took the lead. He drafted off me until the 12 mile mark, then passed me seemingly for good. I stayed about 10 feet back for almost the rest of the race. As we approached the finish line, i was able to pull up right behind him, and as we spotted the 13 mile mark, I put in a sprint to try to lose him. He didn't respond, and i was able to put a 20 foot lead on him, which I held onto till the finish. That effort put me in 21rst place out of 5000+ runners and 7th in my age group. I was very satisfied with this race, especially for this time of year. The only 3 other times I have run faster, it has been with in 2 weeks before a marathon i was training for or the month after a marathon, never this far out (12 weeks). Plus, this was my first race without head phones since 2005. I am trying to get away from running with music and focus on the race at hand, I feel like my head was more in the game and my splits did not fluctuate as usual. My mile splits were:
Mile 1 - 5:40
Mile 2 - 5:46
Mile 3 - 5:44
Mile 4 - 5:50
Mile 5 - 5:59
Mile 6 - 6:01
Mile 7 - 6:01
Mile 8 - 5:58
Mile 9 - 5:51
Mile 10 - 6:00
Mile 11 - 6:01
Mile 12 - 6:01
Mile 13 - 5:44
Mile .1 - 5:20
My time history for this race is:
2007 - 1:21:28
2008 - 1:20:55
2009 - 1:17:35
2010 - 1:16:58
Up next - 5K in Prosperity, SC. Look out, the city slicker is in town!
Mile 1 - 5:40
Mile 2 - 5:46

Sick Day number 2
My head is so congested and my throat feels like i'm swallowing sand. Since I have a race tomorrow, i laid low today, but I still got out and Biked Summer STreets with Ash and Gabriel. It was a nice, relaxing ride.

Calling in Sick
So, everytime Gabriel picks up a cold, I get one 2 days later.......so, of course, i have a scratchy throat and fell not so good. I opted to run 3 miles with Ash and call it a day, i need to rest up for Sunday's race!

Late Night Tempo Run
It was hard to fit in running today. First, after diner, Ash, Gabriel, and I went out and ran 4 miles togther before the sun set. Once we got home, and got him in bed, I went out about 9:30 and tackled my 10 mile tempo run. The first 5 miles were around a 6:45 pace, the I do (2) 1.75 mile loops at the bottom of the park, trying to run fast and hold my pace. Typically, these laps will take me around 10:00 each, my fastest ever being 9:51. Well, tonight, I was feeling good and managed a 9:40 and 9:44. I was tired, but managed to be consistent, and fast. It's looking up for the race this weekend

Hill work
Tonight, I hit the North Hills and put together a 10 mile hillwork out, finshing with a 6-minute last mile. The hills seem to be getting easier. Hopefully, this feeling will conytinue

Inconsistently Average
Today was speed work, unfortunatly I do not have a track near to run on, so i did my mile repeats on the East Drive of Central Park. I was shooting for 3 mile repeats at 5:25. What I did was 5:24, 5:32, and 5:16. So, as far as repeats go, I did not do a great job keeping consistent, but on the average, I hit 5:24. So, good and bad, but I felt satisfied with the effort. I feel my speed coming back, and my legs are beginning to feel stronger. 8 miles down for the day.......

REcovery
After a hard 22 miler, i needed a rest. Gabriel and I decided to take a long, long walk to see Ash at work down at Bryant Park. We toured Central PArk, Times Square, and Bryant Park. Overall, we covered more than 8 miles on foot. It was a nice refreshing day, and some quality time with G!

Bridge run, 2nd time around
Today I did my 22 mile, 5 bridge run for the 2nd time. This time through, I felt a little but stronger than i did last month, although it was still a challenge. I finished in 2:18, which is 6 minutes faster than a month ago. Finally, I am getting into a groove. That capped off a 92 mile week! Next week i will dial back a little in preparation for the Bronx Half next Sunday.

10 mile tempo
Despite the ridiculous humidity, i ran a 10 mile tempo run this morning. i started with a 5 mile mile easy run (6:50 pace), then i did 3.5 miles at 5:45 pace, although i dropped off a little in the last half mile. Then, i finished off with a 1.5 mile cool down. I was hot, but I survived!

Week in Review - 47 Miles
This is no good. I know i was a little hurt this week, but week after week my mileage is down. Most importantly, though, I am getting my long runs in, which is key. I'm hoping this new week brings a better total, and I can finally crack the 80 mile barrier!! We'll see!
Sunday, June 6th - 4:00 a.m.
Since my back has been recovering this week, i chopped my long run to 15 miles. It still did not feel good, and I only managed to get about 14 miles in at above a 7 minute per mile pace. I'm just kinda worn out, dreaming of summer time!!! I hope this coming week will bring more energy and better runs, because right now, i am not enjoying most of them......

Saturday, June 5th - 3:00 p.m.
G had a rough nite, so i did not really sleep much. I pushed off my long run till Sunday. Instead, G and I hung out for the day (Ash had work to do) and he and I did 6 miles together. We ran down to a park in south of Central Park, played for 2 hours, then finished our run. It was an enjoyable day, and plus G got to practice his walking!!!!!!
Friday, June 4, 2010
Friday, June 4th - 4:00 p.m.
Today, i rested in the morning and tried to catch up on sleep. I met Ash in the park and then her and G were going to play with some friends, so i decided to change it up a bit and run to Queens. I was a welcome change of pace, although this meant feeling the heat of the city streets, dodging tourists and walking commuters and scampering between cars, before climbing up and over the famous Queensborough Bridge into Queens. My goal was to get there in 25 minutes or less, just a game to make it interesting. I conquered in 24 minutes. i took the long road back up the east River. It was a refreshing run, a nice change of view, and i actually never turned on my music. It was a good eight miles!!

Thursday, June 3rd - 4:00 p.m.
The good doctor has said i have to lay low for a few days to let my back heal and not get worse. So, only easy running. This afternoon, Ash had work she needed to do, so Gabriel and I hit the park and ran to the south end where we stopped midway and played at the playground. He is now a walker!! He walked, and walked, and walked! I was so thrilled and amazed, i forgot to video. Idiot!! We played for an hour and half, then hit the roads again and ran up to Whole Foods for a few groceries and some samples (Happy hour is 5-8 on Thursday's! Yay!). Overall, I got close to 7 miles in. In was nice and relaxing, and good quality time with G!! Gotta keep taking it easy.

Wednesday, June 2nd - 4:00 a.m.
So, from moving futons and racing through midtown in work clothes with school books, i have agrivated my lower back, so much that i could only jog about 5 miles slow this morning. Through out the day, it got so bad it was tearfully painfull on my back to even go to the bathroom, 1 & 2!! I've got some serious pain, gonna have to find relief
Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Tuesday, June 1rst - 4:00 a.m.
We didn't get to bed till almost 1 a.m. last night, and G was up by 2 a.m. So, we slept ( or should I say he slept, and i was kicked alot:) )on the new bed in his room, till Ash got us up at 4 a.m. So, really no sleep but still got out and ran 7, and it stunk big time, but I got back in and took an hour nap after I got done. Gotta keep trying.
May in Review - 227 Miles
May was a month of ups and downs. I ran 2 races, setting a PR by almost 30 seconds in the 4-mile and winning and age group award. Also ran a half marathon in Brooklyn, taking 6 minutes off my course time for Brooklyn, but struggling mentally in that race. A sinus infection sidelined me for almost 2 weeks, killing my mileage. I did, though, get a long run of 18 and 20 in this month, so the long runs are going well. Hopefully next month will be a little better, I know it will be much easier once i get off school. Onward and upward!!

Monday, May 31rst - Happy Memorial Day
We had so much going on today that I took the day off!! I slept in till 7 and it felt wonderful!

Week in Review - 74 Miles
It was a tough week. I did not make my 82 miles, but I did manage 74, including a day off. I'm having trouble managing my sleep time, just not getting enough time in bed, and it is showing. I am struggling through my runs, none of them feel good, and i have no power right now. I am completely off the meds now, from the sinus infection. I hope to see something better next week, i may not feel better till this summer, who knows. I will continue, I am getting sick and tired of seeing 82 miles on my schedule, but I can't move on till I get it.
Sunday, May 30th - 10:00 p.m.
The morning was messed up, so I had not gotten my run in. I went out late and did 10 miles through the park. I almost entertained the idea of doing 18 so i could hit my goal, but soon decided that would be stupid. I'm content with what i did!
Sunday, May 30th - 4:00 p.m.
Ash, G and I had playtime in the Hippo park and then a nice run through the park. Since G was still asleep, we decided to tackle the North Hills. It was a nice, enjoyable afternoon run! Came up to just short of 5 miles!
Saturday, May 29, 2010
Saturday, May 29th - 4:00 a.m.
Today I set out for 22, but feel short and only could manage 20 plus a 1 mile cool down, then realized I was only supposed to run 20 anyway. It was hard though, and I sputtered through the last 5 miles. Just dead, so dead legs. I did it, though, and it's been my longest of this training schedule. I finished south of 7 minute pace, but not by much. I hope energy comes soon, but i feel I won't see it till summer!! Mileage is mileage right now, just thankful I can get a 20 miler in, and then be back in time for breakfast with the family!
Friday, May 28, 2010
Friday, May 28th - 4:00 a.m.
Hit 7 today, tired, groggy, but managed at least some miles. Tomorrow's run will be a challenge!
Thursday, May 27, 2010
Thursday, May 27th - 4:30 a.m.
Did 6 this morning, struggling to get up, so tired, must get more sleep......
Wednesday, May 26, 2010
Wednesday, May 26th - 4:00 p.m.
On such a hot day, Ash and Gabriel and I went to the Hippo park to play in the water fountains, then took a 3 mile spin around the park. Gabriel LOVES the water fountains.
Wednesday, May 26th - 4:00 a.m.
I got out on the road this morning, but I felt off. i was very dizzy and lethargic feeling. I'm not sure what's going on, I may need to examine what I'm eating and make sure I am getting enough water and sleep. I only did 7 instead of 10 miles.
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
Tuesday, May 25th - 5:00 p.m.
Last night, we were up way too late. I slept in this morning and pushed off my run till the afternoon. It was warm, but I ran an easy 10 miles in the park and out on the Riverside. I was tired and stiff at first, but soon loosened up for a nice run.
Monday, May 24, 2010
Monday, May 24th - 4:00 a.m.
It's a new week, I'm back on track. I did an easy 7 miles this morning, still stuff from the race, but glad to be back running. And the light drizzle was not too bad either.
Sunday, May 23, 2010
Week in Review - 20 Miles
I had no choice but to take this week off. The sinus infection is finally gone, so I am ready to get back on track with my running. My goal for the upcoming week is 82 miles. I am happy with my half marathon on Saturday, although I have to work on the mental game, I just did not have it upstairs. There's always another day. My next half is not till August, but I will be doing some shorter races this summer.
Sunday, May 23rd - Day of rest
So, Gabriel was up almost the entire night, he just could not get to sleep. Needless to say, I rounded out the rest week by taking off today.

Saturday, May 22nd - Brooklyn Half Marathon
This morning was the Brooklyn Half Marathon starting at 7 a.m. in Prospect Park. After 2 laps and 7 miles, we exit the park and head straight for Coney Island, with a beautiful finish on the Boardwalk. I had a tough race, mentally. I've been out with a sinus infection for almost 2 weeks, so I'm feeling a little off. I went out and set a pace of around 5:52 for the first 8 miles, which I was pleased with. My mind started to think about how tired I was and how far I had to go and how impossible it was to catch the guys in front of me and how close the guys behind me were getting. Mile 9 slipped to 6:02 and I mentally gave up. Mile 10 was 6:20 and Mile 11 was 6:17. In that stretch, I gave back 5 places and almost a full minute on the clock.
By now, it was looking grim, but I decided to try and hang with the 5th guy to pass me, and I battled with getting my head back in the game. I was able to run the 12th mile in 5:59. My competitor would not let me quit, and actually yelled at me to not drop off the pace. He pulled me along with him to a 5:43 Mile 13. I eventually finished in 1:18:05 and 24th place out of 7,014 finishers and 5th in my age group. That finishing time gave me an average of 5:57 per mile.
While my time is respectable, and actually my fastest by 6 minutes on this course, I was stung by how I gave up. If I am going to fade in a race, it's because I went out too hard, not because I counted myself out. I still can't wrap my head around it, but I know I need to figure it out. I can still celebrate my performance! And you know the name of my competitor who pulled me along: Gabriel!!
Mile Splits:
1 Mile - 5:42

Friday, May 21rst - Still fighting the Infection
I took another morning off. I'm starting to feel better, I just want to knock this thing out. Tomorrow I have the Brooklyn Half at 7:00 a.m.
Thursday, May 20, 2010
Thursday, May 20th - 4:00 a.m.
I'm still stuffed up from the sinus infection, but i need to get out and at least get a little running in. I only did a slow 5 miles this morning. I don't feel so great, but at least I am doing something. Hope this thing clears soon.
Wednesday, May 19, 2010
Wednesday, May 19th - Sinus Infection!!
Taking another day off, letting this sinus infection clear up.
Tuesday, May 18, 2010
Tuesday, May 18th - Zzzzzzzzzz
Well, I went to the doctor yesterday. Fever and a sinus infection! I'm on meds now, and last night I got 9 hours of sleep! Precious sleep.....so, i am going to have to lay low this week till I get well. Plus, i have a race Saturday, I need to be feeling well for that.
Monday, May 17, 2010
Monday, May 17th - 4:00 a.m.
Gabriel had another tough night last night, we were up with him for most of the night. I ended up sleeping on the floor in his room with him. Considering I am still not feeling well with my cold, I did not run this morning.
Sunday, May 16, 2010
Week In Review - 60 Miles
It was a tough week, and the allergies and Gabriel's restless nights definitely took their toll. I did my best to get my runs in, but didn't make the 82 planned. I will adjust my schedule to accommodate this setback, making next week's goal 82 miles. I also have the Brooklyn 1/2 marathon on Saturday. I'm looking forward to this race!!
Sunday, May 16th, 4:00 a.m.
Although 10 was on the schedule, I am feeling rough from my run yesterday. I wheezed and coughed and blew my nose the entire run. I think 19 yesterday did me in. I only managed 7 miles. I hope to get rid of this cold soon, it is becoming irritating!
Saturday, May 15, 2010
Saturday, May 15th - 4:00 a.m.
This morning was my longest yet in the new training schedule. I again took to my loop around Manhattan, including an extra mile in Harlem, to make 19 miles. NYC still has yet to turn on all the water fountains, maybe they are trying to save money, but it really stinks. I was doing great till about mile 15, when i ran out of energy. My first 15 miles were around a 6:45 per mile pace, but I shuffled in at about 7 minutes a mile. None the less, good long run, next weekend I will race a half marathon in Brooklyn instead of my long run. Getting excited!!
Friday, May 14, 2010
Friday, May 14th - 4:00 a.m.
Only did 7 miles this morning, i'm feeling worn down, this cold is STILL dragging on, stupid allergies!! Tomorrow's 19 miler will be a challenge
Thursday, May 13, 2010
Thursday, May 13th - 4:00 a.m.
Did the scheduled 10 miles this morning, got a little more sleep last night, but I still can't shake this cold. Due to the cold, I have put off the tempo run this week.
Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Wednesday, May 12th - No Morning Run
Gabriel had a rough night last night, having trouble sleeping, therefore he ended up in our bed, tossing and turning for hours. We finally got him to bed after 1:30 a.m. Just not enough sleep. Hope to squeeze in some running later tonight.
Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Tuesday, May 11th - 4:00 a.m.
Still stuffed up, but i managed to make itout and run 10 miles easy. These allergies are going to be the death of me!!
Monday, May 10, 2010
Monday, May 10th - 4:00 a.m.
I am completely congested from the race in the pollen filled park yesterday. I woke up so much choking on snot last night. I decided to go back to sleep this morning, I think it will do me better in the long run
Sunday, May 9, 2010
Week in Review - 44 Miles
While I only managed 44 miles this week, it was a scheduled down week, one in which I needed to relax and rest anyway. I pleased with the 4-mile race Sunday, a new PR and an age group award, and i have not started any speed work at all. It a promising outlook for the future. This next week, i get back into mileage building with a scheduled 82 miles!
Sunday, May 9th - 8:00 a.m.
Race time! Ash and I ran the "R Baby" 4-mile charity run in Central Park this morning. Unfortunately, the conditions were less than ideal. Winds were gusting to 30 mph!! We went out and gave it a good shot anyway. I tried to go out and give an even effort.
Mile 1 = 5:30
Mile 2 = 5:30
Mile 3 = 5:51
Mile 4 = 5:30
Mile 3 is almost completely uphill. i was pleased with the effort. i finished 10th overall out of more than 4,500 runners and 3rd in my age group. I was happy with my run, plus I set a new P.R. of 22:21 (Old P.R. 22:48 set in September 2009). It was a great race, despite the weather.

Saturday, May 8th - Day off
I'm exhausted today, just too much going on. This is my down week, so I decided to enjoy some time off, plus I have a race tomorrow.......so, day off for me!
Friday, May 7, 2010
Friday, May 7th - 4:00 a.m.
Still not quite getting the sleep I need, we are preparing for Gabriel's birthday Sunday. Managed 7 miles this morning, although I felt like I was dragging my legs. Tired, tired, tired.......
Thursday, May 6, 2010
Thursday, May 6th - 4:00 p.m.
Ash and I jogged slowly down to NikeTown to pick up our racing packets for the race Sunday. we totaled about 3 miles, and sucked in about 10 pounds of pollen!!!
Thursday, May 6th - 4:00 a.m.
Still getting used to the earlier time. Plus, last night G had trouble sleeping, so he came into our bed for a few hours. Not much sleep, so only tackled 6, and it was slow............
Wednesday, May 5, 2010
Wednesday, May 5th - 4:00 a.m.
Notice the new start time. I have to start at 4 now to get my run done. My runs are getting longer and longer and i was scrambling to fit in the runs. I was able to run 10 miles easy this morning, take the dogs out, shower, eat breakfast, update Facebook and Twitter, and get a 35 minute nap in all before Gabriel got up at 6:45. What a day!!! I love my life!!!
Tuesday, May 4, 2010
Tuesday, May 4th - 4:30 a.m.
Super sleepy......must catch up on sleep. Got a slow 8, glad this is a down week.
Monday, May 3, 2010
Monday, May 3rd - 4:30 a.m.
Called on account of Lightening....I love to run in the rain, but lightening and thunder is not worth the risk, after narrowly missing the storm that ravaged Central Park last year (I was walking the dogs when the winds began to howl and blow very cold. I decided to cut it short and go in. 20 minutes later, the storm uprooted hundreds of massive oaks right where i walk the dogs). I turned around the 1 mile mark. So, a measly 2 miles, but its a down week, so its OK.

Week in Review - 72 miles
What a great week!! I managed 72 miles with a long run of 18 miles. I'm still building my base, steadily increasing my weekly mileage. I'll soon be in the 80's and 90's and hope to still be feeling good!
Sunday, May 2nd - 5:00 p.m.
This morning, i was so tired, i got to run and fell asleep on the couch as i waited for the weather forecast. So, later on, Ash and Gabriel and I hit the park. I ran 4 miles with them, then 6 on my own. I passed the 70 mile barrier for the first time in years. The future is looking great!!
Saturday, May 1rst - 4:30 a.m.
This morning I tackled an 18 mile long run. I finished in just a hair under 2 hours. That puts me at a 6:47 pace for the run, which is great. My legs felt good, my breathing was fine, I could have used some water. Did the typical 1 water stop the whole run. Getting ridiculous. I finished the last 10 miles in 3 minutes faster than I did last week.
Friday, April 30, 2010
April in Review - 241 total miles
For the month of April, i concentrated on getting my weekly mileage up, consistently increasing it. I ran a total of 241 miles in April, most of them at an easy pace. This is about a 90 mile increase from March. I had a very consistent month, with only a few days of no running. I am looking forward to racing next month
Friday, April 30th - 4:30 a.m.
The alarm clock rang early this morning, i did not want to get up. Went to a book release last night, so not enough sleep. I ran only 6 miles, but at least it was better than sleeping in!!
Thursday, April 29, 2010
Thursday, April 29th - 4:30 a.m.
Mr. Freeze is still hanging around, but good news, he will be gone by the weekend. My long run should be shorts and no shirt weather. Sweet!!!!!! Did 8 easy this morning.
Wednesday, April 28, 2010
Wednesday, April 28th - 4:30 a.m.
Tried to get to bed early last night, would love to be asleep at 8!!!! Ran 10 miles easy in the park this morning, it was in the 30's, so unfortunately, I had to wear gloves and tights. Soon enough, my morning runs will be balmy....
Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Tuesday, April 27th - 4:00 p.m.
Got to go out with Ash and G on a 4 mile run tonight. It was enjoyable, but began to get a little chilly. Sorry about that G!!
Tuesday, April 27th - 5:20 a.m.
Accidently rolled over and went back to sleep, but managed to spring out of bed and scurry out to the park to at least get in 5 miles. I'll make up the other mileage later in the week
Monday, April 26, 2010
Monday, April 26th - 9:00 p.m.
I needed rest last night, I had to sleep in this morning, so that meant i got to run in the rain tonight. I just took it easy, my pace was over 7 minutes, but that's fine with me. I covered the 10 miles, and took a nice hot shower when i was done!!!
Sunday, April 25, 2010
Week In Review
This week, my total was 64 miles, only 3 shy of my goal. That is not bad, considering I did not run Sunday. I had a great tempo run this week, which is encouraging this early. Also, my long run was very smooth and even. This coming week I have a goal of 74 miles with a long run of 18 miles. It only goes up from here!!
Sunday, April 25th - 5:00 a.m.
Chef Andy has been up since 1:30 a.m. preparing for Ashley surprise birthday dinner today, so running was not an option this morning.........
Saturday, April 24, 2010
Saturday, April 24th - 2:00 p.m.
Ash and Gabriel and I jogged down first to the ASICS store in Bryant Park to pick up our free marathon hats, then over to Grand Central for the Green Earth Day fair, which was a let down. Then back home. We amassed about 4 miles of running. Better than taking the subway!!
Saturday April 24th, 5:00 a.m.
This morning, I again took to the streets of New York and did a lap around Manhattan Island. For the first time, my long morning run was actually greeted by daylight.
(What do you see on your morning run?)
It was a very even run, covering 17 miles in 1:55 plus 1 mile cool down jog. The first 11 miles I did at 6:49 pace, stopped at a local track and did 1 mile at 6:00, then continued the last 5 miles at 6:46. I felt great the whole run, but am getting thirsty, no water fountains were working in the riverside park, which is half the run, and the other parks only have 2 working fountains total. Might have to start bringing hydration!!
Friday, April 23, 2010
Friday, April 23rd - 5:00 a.m.
Slow, tired, just getting in miles. I got 8 done. Looking forward to my 17 miles tomorrow!!
Thursday, April 22, 2010
Thursday, April 22nd - 4:30 a.m.
It was a rough morning, Tuesday's tempo run has caught up with me. Scheduled for 10, my legs could only make 7, I simply had nothing left. Need some energy, at least I did not sleep in!!

Wednesday, April 21rst - 4:30 a.m.
...and 5 hours later I am running again. This time, 7 easy miles above 7 minutes per mile. No need to go hard, plus I am way too tired......

Tuesday, April 20th - 10:00 p.m.
Today the alarm did not go off, i opted to run tonight. My easy 10 grew into a tempo 11-mile run by accident. It turned out to be an awesome run. The splits are as follows:
Warmup
- 1.5 miles - 6:50 per mile
Tempo
-4.0 miles - 6:00 per mile
-1.75 miles - 5:42 per mile
-1.75 miles - 5:38 per mile
-1 mile - 6:08 per mile
Cool down
-1 mile - 7:30 per mile
I was shocked at my fitness level and how good i felt. It was my first tempo run in months, and was considerably faster than i could have hoped for.

Monday, April 19th - 4:30 a.m.
The cold is still here, I managed to fit in 7 miles this morning, although I felt like rolling over and going back to sleep. It was slow and easy, I'm hoping it will be gone soon, i do not want to have to take time off for it.

Week in Review
I hit my goal of 61 miles this week, including a 17 mile long run, and a 1-mile fitness test where i did a 5:08 road mile. It's not so impressive right now, but it gives me a place to start from. I will be adding a tempo run this week, most likely on Thursday morning. I'm glad to be on target, despite the fact i have a cold right now. Hopefully it will clear up soon.
Sunday, April 18th - 5:00 a.m.
Sore, tired, and snotty, I trudged through a slow 8 miles. Then I came back and fell asleep on the couch. I' m ready for this cold to be gone.....

Saturday, April 17th - 5:00 a.m.
I had a little bit of a fever yesterday, but this morning it was down. So, i ran anyway. I did not feel well the first few miles, but soon enough, i was able to get into a groove. I did 17 miles @ 6:52 pace. I was definitely not feeling 100%, so i was pleased with the results. 8 miles to go and i will hit my mileage mark for the week!!

Friday, April 16th - 5:30 a.m
Kind of got a late start this morning. Feeling a little stiff from the 1-mile fitness test yesterday. I managed to jog a slow 4-mile. Hopefully i can pick up a few extra miles this evening, that is, if it's not a down pour
Thursday, April 15, 2010
Thursday, April 15th - 4:30 a.m.
This morning, I assessed my fitness level, to kind of get an idea of where I need to set my tempo run paces and my interval paces. I started with a 3 mile warm-up to get loose. Then I did a 1-mile, hard as i could go (at this hour, anyway), then followed it with 3 miles easy. I finished the mile in 5:08. I am pleased with this, and figured this was about where i was. Soon, I am going to do the same test, except on a track. Tracks are just not open at the time i am running right now.

Wednesday, April 14th - 5:00 p.m.
Ash and G and I went out for a nice jog on the Bridle Path around Central Park. Halfway through the run, we stopped at a playground on the South End of the and had a great time with Gabriel exploring! We managed to get in 3 miles of running. It was so enjoyable to get out in the afternoon sun.
Wednesday, April 14th - 5:00 am
Yesterday on my morning run, I developed a blister on my right heel, right at the top of the shoe. I put a bandaid on it this morning, but the rubbing was too much. I cut my run to 4 miles, I figured it was stupid to do much more in such pain. I'm going to lather it with "New Skin" and hopefully it will not be a problem tomorrow

Tuesday, April 13th - 4:30 a.m.
ZZZZZzzzzzz.......So tired this morning. Not enough sleep last night, I need to work on getting to bed earlier. Accomplished 7 miles, although it was slow. But, still mileage. I wish I could get back in bed this morning instead of going to work!!!
Monday, April 12, 2010
Monday, April 12th - 6:00 p.m
Ash, G and I were able to soak up the last few remaing rays of sun. We had a nice 3 mile jog on the bridal path. It has been so nice now that he is growing up, we can take him exploring, and not be in fear of the inconsolable screaming that used to happen. So glad we get this time to spend with each other.
Monday, April 12th - 5:00 a.m.
Still feeling tired from my run on Saturday, I was able to get 6 miles run this morning, in no record speed by any means, about a 7:15 pace. Hopefully I can get energized here soon, I am feeling so tired

Week in Review
It was a tough week from the start, no running for the first 3 days due to traveling and moving storage spaces. I managed to accumualte 42 miles regardless, including a long run of 16 miles that was at a pace of 6:50. I'm happy with the success of the end of teh week, and have rearranged my schedule to accomodate the time off. The next week I will be aiming for 62 rather than the 52 that is written in the schedule. I'm feeling like I am getting fitter, but still have not completely adjusted to the 4:30 a.m. running time. I still feel groggy and heavy. Hopefully this next week will bring better feelings.
Sunday, April 11th - 5:00 a.m.
Whew! Yesterday took it out of me. I had nothing this morning, plus Gabriel was having a rough night, so I was in and out of the bed since 3 am. I tried to do 8, but had nothing in my legs, I actually stopped a walked for a while at mile 3. I think i didn't eat enough yesterday, and not enough sleep, combined with that being my longest run since th 2009 NYC Marathon. I did the smart thing, went slow, and chopped it to 6 miles. I will probably go out later and run a few more with Ash and G! At least it was mileage....
Saturday, April 10, 2010
Saturday, April 10th - 5:00 p.m.
Ash and G and I went out and did a nice easy 2 mile jog, enjoying the last little bit of sun light. Nice ending to the day, and it helped me work out some soreness.
Saturday, April 10th - 4:30 a.m.
I had a nice solid 16 mile run this morning, 6:50 pace. Its been my longest run of this build up, and longest since last NYC marathon. It felt great, and I had plenty of energy to finish strong. Its so nice to have the city to myself at that hour, I saw nobody for the first hour of the run as i looped around Manhattan. Hope NYC turns on the water fountains soon, i can't go much longer with no water
Friday, April 9, 2010
Friday, April 9th - 4:00 p.m.
Got to go running in the park with Ash and G after work today. After we finished our 3 mile run, we played at the Wild West Park.
Friday, April 9th - 5:15 a.m.
Got a little late start this morning, was able to squeeze in 6 miles. It was cool and rainy, and I forgot my watch and my Ipod was dead. At least its mileage. I think i will be switching this week and next week as far as mileage goals are concerned. Its just been an off week, but I will be running later with Ash and G. So I know that will be enjoyable.
Thursday, April 8, 2010
Thursday, April 8th - 4:30 a.m.
Slow, sad 6 miles. Struggling to run, I need to catch up on my rest. The first part of this week has taken its toll on me. I am whooped. Hopefully next week will be better, once we get back in a routine!
Wednesday, April 7, 2010
Wednesday, April 7th - Foiled Again
This week is pretty much shot as far as mileage. After such a rough few days, it was impossible to get up early and run this morning, and Ashley and Gabriel came back today. Just a lot of catching up to do, and a lot of resting. I may make this my down week. No running today.
Tuesday, April 6, 2010
Tuesday, April 6th - Exhausted
I drove through the night last night, taking only 1 30 minute nap. I did not actually get home and teh car unloaded till 4 pm, and then fell asleep!! Unfortunatly, i could not run today either. This traveling is really going to screw up my week

Monday, April 5th - Day of Rest
Since I will be driving through the night tonight, I have opted to take the day off.

Week In Review
I managed to hit 55.7 miles for the week, with a solid 14.5 mile long run. I was happy with the week considering I was in places I was not accustomed to running and lack of street lights. But I made it work. Onward and upward. Next week is 61 miles, although I will be challenged to meet it with overnight traveling and the moving of a storage space. I will do my best!
Sunday, April 4th - 4:00 pm
Ash and I headed out for a 3.6 mile jog, while G played at home. It was nice and refreshing to get out, although a little warm!!
Sunday, April 4th - 5:00 a.m.
A pedestrian 6 miles this morning, I am so incredibly sore from my long run yesterday. I think combining that with the day of moving has worn me out. I will be taking off Monday since I will be driving a moving truck through the night, i need my energy.
Saturday, April 3, 2010
Saturday, April 3rd - 4:30 a.m.
Today was another long run, I'm gradually increasing the length each week. This morning it was 14 miles. I felt great, and I ran on some of the roads i used to run on years ago. I over estimated the amount of sidewalks the highways I had, i remembered them having so much more. I was able to avoid the cars and put in 14.5 miles at a 6:50 pace. I now i have the rest of the day to visit people.

Friday, April 2nd - False Alarm
So, the alarm did not go off this morning, which meant i slept in till 8, which is amazing that Gabriel slept that long. That threw my whole day off, and i had to do a lot of furniture moving the rest of the day. That means, i had to take an unplanned day off. I'll rest up for my long run tomorrow
Thursday, April 1, 2010
Thursday, April 1st - 5:00 a.m
I did 7 miles in my sleep this morning, i was out of gas, and it was a trudge just to get out on the road. Again, not enough sleep, hopefully tonight i can change that

March in Review - 152 total Miles
March was an experimental month. For the last half, i have been able to get up at 4:30 a.m. and go run. The first part was a struggle. I amassed a total of 150 miles, although the majority of that was in the second half of the month. I hope to keep up this work ethic throughout the upcoming months.
Wednesday, March 31st - 5 p.m.
It was a gorgeous day out, so Ash and G and I went for a little jog down O'sheal. Its only 1 mile long, so we had to play some running games to up our mileage. Ended up with about 3.6 miles. I had a great time with a nice easy run.
Wednesday, March 31st - 5:15 a.m.
Quite tired this morning, up till 12:00 last night working on the website. Got up at the usual 4:30 am, but fell back asleep on the couch. Finally got moving around 5:15. I did a tiresome 6 miles in around a 6:45 pace. I have been running the same course for 3 days, its getting old, but my options are limited at this hour. Oh well, at least I don't have to repark the car 4 times a week while we are here
Tuesday, March 30, 2010
Tuesday, March 30th - 4:30 am
More sleep last night was a welcome relief. I managed to run the scheduled 8 miles this morning. I miss Central Park. It was dark out on the roads, and of course i had to worry about cars, something i have not had to deal with in years. At least the weather is warmer, i'm looking forward to some upper 70's
Monday, March 29, 2010
Monday, March 29th - 1:00 pm
Little to no sleep last night. We drove the whole night, stopping to rest a few times. We did not arrive till 10:30 am. I did manage to get a good run in, clocking 6:25 pace for 7 miles. Now, it is time to crash and burn!!!
Week in Review
This week was a very consistent and successful week for my running. I hit 52.5 miles (Goal total 47) by Saturday, so I granted myself a well deserved day off. I got up everyday at 4:30 am, no matter what time i went to bed. My runs all felt great, and i look forward to increasing the mileage and adding in some quality workouts in the coming month.

Sunday, March28th - ZZZzzzzzzz
By this morning, I have already surpassed my weekly mileage goal by too much, thanks to the 22.5 mile day yesterday. Plus, i have a long night ahead of me, we are driving to SC through the night. I need all the strength I can summon. And I'm extremely stiff. So, day off!!!

Saturday, March 27th - 2 pm
oops....I'm sure you weren't expecting another post. We jogged on down to Chelsea today to shop a little and had no idea it was so far away. It turned into a 9.5 mile run. It was fun, but far more than I should have run today, pushing my total to 22.5 miles for today. Time for some sleep!
Saturday, March 27th - 5:00am
I only got 4 hours of sleep last night, thanks to March Madness. I still got up at 4:30, but i just stared at the TV for a half hour, trying to muster the energy to get going. I did a couple laps around Central Park, and then a little extra. It felt good, considering how cold and tired i was. 13 miles at a 6:45 pace. Still doing base miles, i'm looking forward to mixing it up a little in the near future.
Friday, March 26, 2010
Friday, March 26th - 4:30 am
It was cold and rainy out there, I accomplished 6 miles at a nice, relaxed, easy pace. I'm trying to wrap my head around how i am going to do quality workouts at this hour. I guess I will continue to get to used to this time of day, and some warming up and stretching won't hurt either
Thursday, March 25, 2010
Thursday, March 25th - 4:30 a.m.
I did 7 miles easy this morning, my back is still stiff, but it gets a little better each day. Soon these 6 and 7 mile runs will turn into 10 and 12 mile runs...Wheww! Looking forward to a little sunshine, the summer is going to be perfect!!
Wednesday, March 24, 2010
Wednesday, March 24th - 4:30 am
My back is feeling better this morning, i did a lot of heating pad and stretching last night. Ran 6.5 miles around perimeter of Central Park (7:00/mile pace), just to change it up a little. I hope by this weekend my back will be back to normal and I can get in a good long run.
Tuesday, March 23, 2010
Tuesday, March 23rd - 4:00 pm
Ash and G and I made it out to the park, despite the steady drizzle. We jogged for about 2 miles, then walked about a mile or so. It felt good on my lower back, I'm still working out the knots. Hopefully I will sleep well tonight and feel ready to go in the morning.
Tuesday, March 23rd - 4:30 am
This morning was rough. My back is still knotted up. I tried to run, but oo painful. I did only a 2 mile slow jog to warm myself up, then stretched for about 30 minutes. If i am feeling better by the afternoon, I will venture out again. Frustrating......
Monday, March 22, 2010
Monday, March 22nd - 4:30 am
I ran 6 miles in Central Park this morning, and i have now run for 6 days in a row at 4:30 am. This is my new time to run, and i am trying to get used to it. The run was tough, though, my lower back is very tight and throbbing. I suffered through the run in about 41 minutes, but I will be seriously stretching later today after work.
